HAVE TO ADMIT I am not really an ‘Aston man’. Probably because Aston Martins have always been reassuringly priced and far too expensive for an impecunious hack like me. I suppose I’m more of a Jag man. A couple of years ago I was having a chat with the charming and urbane BRDC racing driver Mike Salmon. I mentioned his Jag and he firmly admonished me. ‘It’s a JAGUAR’, he instructed in very direct terms. Lops. Since then I have wondered why Michael Salmon refers to himself as ‘Mike’… Like most classic car enthusiasts, I’ve always admired Astons, especially the David Brown 4, 5 and 6 models with their beautiful CarrozzeriaTouring and Superleggerabodywork.
