EDITOR DAVID LILLYWHITE tested the new Ferrari 488GTB in Octane146; now there’s a convertible version – seen here ahead of September’s Frankfurt motor show. Like the 458 it replaces, the new 488 Spider (picture 1, above) features a retractable hardtop that’s claimed to save 25kg in comparison to a traditional electric folding soft-top. It will open or close in just 14 seconds at the touch of a finger. That’s the pose sorted, then. As for power, the Spider shares the 488GTB’s twin-turbo 3.9-litre, dry-sump V8 for 661bhp and 583lb ft of torque, so the 0-62mph sprint is dispatched in a claimed 3.0sec. That’s performance sorted too. And handling? The new Spider is claimed to match the GTB for rigidity, being 23% stiffer than the open 458, so you can enjoy all…
