13-14 JUNE Brooklands, Surrey, UK IF YOU THINK that classic cars should do more than stand about and look pretty to win a show, then the Brooklands Double 12 is probably for you. This year’s event combined a concours d’elegance, which encompassed Edwardian to mid-1970s machines, with a series of hay-bale-cordoned driving tests – which included the famous Brooklands Test Hill. In the concours, all the usual considerations of authenticity and elegance were observed, combined with a points category unique to the event: the ‘Spirit of Brooklands’ – awarded if the cars were carrying on the Brooklands tradition of privateer machines that were both racers and (almost) everyday road cars. Given the great track’s history and the fact that the event is held in tandem with a VSCC sprint on the associated Mercedes-Benz World…
