Laguna Seca faces power-struggle
CALIFORNIA’S MAZDA RACEWAY Laguna Seca circuit may be poised for a new operator, following a legal wrangle over the circuit’s lease. Lhe Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula (SCRAMP), which currently manages Laguna Seca, is pleading with fans to contact politicians of the county and urge them to keep the track under SCRAMP’s control. It is thought that SCRAMP has disappointed Monterey County in recent years due to dwindling attendance figures, and the loss of Laguna Seca’s flagship MotoGP event after the 2013 season. Since March 2014 the county has retained SCRAMP to manage the raceway on a month-by-month basis, while the county ‘has been exploring options for the management of the raceway to ensure its long-term success’.
