The clean eating craze has made us acutely aware of what we’re putting in our body and how it affects our health and the health of the planet. For some time now, this ethos has been permeating the beauty aisle, too. Recent research has shown that certain cosmetic ingredients can enter the bloodstream, and concerned consumers are eager to know exactly what’s in their face creams and makeup. The marketing research firm NPD reports that 46 percent of skincare users say they’ve sought out products free of synthetic additives such as sulfates and phthalates.
