GOODBYE, MONGOOSE At the age of 81, one of the most iconic characters in drag racing history has passed away. Tom ‘The Mongoose’ McEwen rose to prominence in the early 1960s, becoming one of the sport’s biggest names thanks to his gift of the gab, coupled with an unquenchable passion for drag racing, which saw him voted 16th on the NHRA’s Top 50 Drivers list in 2001. He is best known for his long-running partnership and rivalry with Don ‘The Snake’ Prudhomme — a superior racer, in terms of the numbers.
