VILLAGE RESIDENTS STAY INVOLVED

Moving into a retirement village doesn’t mean isolating yourself from the community or from the social and recreational activities and organisations that you enjoy. Many people living in retirement villages are actively involved in their local communities, and indeed we have heard of many people who are still involved in their daily vocations and professions, especially self-employed professional people such as solicitors and engineers. Villages usually have active social and recreation programmes, often organised and run by the residents themselves, and many have formally arranged involvement with their local communities. The Russley Village in Christchurch for example has adopted the nearby Roydvale Primary School, a connection initiated by the residents themselves, largely led by Leonie and John Clent (pictured) who moved into the village – developed on the site of…
