Mintage, Market Affects 1901-S Barber dime

The 1901-S Barber dime deserves a second look. The Barber dime series ended production in 1916, the year it was replaced by the Mercury design. Being replaced by a new design is one point in the life cycle, but actually disappearing from circulation is another. By the late 1950s, Barber dimes, as well as Barber quarters and half dollars, had basically vanished from circulation. As we see with 50-state quarters, new designs create collector interest both in the new designs and in the design which appears to be vanishing from circulation.
