The TV presenter, 65, made the comments just weeks after ex-husband Phil Vickery was pictured kissing her best friend, Lorraine Stanton.
The pair insisted they are just friends and Fern was forced to address the issue on social media.
Speaking at the Good Housekeeping Live festival last week, she gave an insight on how she copes in times of stress and difficulty, saying, “You need to just find somebody and put your arms around them, and have a hug and a cup of tea and, generally, that fixes everything.
“I like to close the front door and just potter. You have to get through. It’s difficult. Life is difficult but it is also great.” Fern, who moved to Cornwall after splitting from This Morning chef Phil in 2020, also discussed how she likes to switch off.
She said, “I have two cats. I live in a wonderful village and I have got two or three wonderful girlfriends. And when I am in the s**t their husbands come over and help me out [with household fixing]. It is lovely. We have fun.”
Phil, 61, was snapped with Lorraine, 58, on a London street last month. But last week, he played down romance rumours, insisting she’s “just a friend” and adding, “We’re just mates having lunch, for goodness sake.”
And when asked if Fern was satisfied with his explanation, he said, “Yes, she put a tweet out. There you go, we’re friends.”
At the time, Fern, who was reportedly “hurt” and “struggling to process her mixed emotions”, took to Twitter after Phil and Lorraine were photographed kissing to “clear up any concerns”, saying, “It’s not true.”
