US actress and chat show host Drew Barrymore, who turned 50 on 22 February, recently spoke about entering a “new era”.
The star, who said she was celebrating by tapping into her inner child and throwing herself a giant sleepover with her daughters, Frankie and Olive, said she worked on herself during her forties to get to the happy place she's in now.
“I was so capable of having fun and experiencing joy, but I don’t know if I was happy. There’s such a big difference, and now I’m actually happy. This decade has truly helped me find ways into choosing happiness, and I have to choose it every day over and over again.”

The superfit star was one of the daredevil recruits on Netflix’s Celebrity Bear Hunt, proving her mettle on the scary reality show – including getting chased by a 10-foot crocodile. The mum-of-three previously said, “The good thing about getting older is you care less what people think, so embrace that. Go for it, make the most of it and enjoy it.” Mel said she “started over” in her forties after ending her marriage to Stephen Belafonte in 2017, so for her fifties, the sky’s the limit.

She may look years younger, but Angelina Jolie admitted last year that she’s embracing feeling “like an older woman” now. The star, who recently played opera singer Maria Callas in the biopic Maria, has spoken before about feeling comfortable about getting older – and there’s a very good reason – her own mother, Marcheline Bertrand, sadly died of cancer aged just 56.
Angelina, who is 50 on 4 June, said in 2021, “Maybe because my mom didn't live very long, there's something about age that feels like a victory instead of a sadness for me.” The mum-of-six predicted, “I’m looking forward to my fifties – I feel I'm gonna hit my stride.”
