Emmerdale’s Charity Dingle receives a phone call this week that totally knocks her for six. As she takes in the news, she’s soon hitting the vodka – as well as hitting the road after nicking her newfound cousin Caleb Dingle’s car, taking Cain (Jeff Hordley) along for the ride.
But what’s upset Charity so much? Her current living situation is certainly explosive, with Charity unaware that her fiancé Mack (Lawrence Robb) has got their lodger Chloe (Jessie Elland) pregnant. However, Charity’s colourful past could equally also throw up a surprise or two.

She’s going through a pretty average day when it happens. There’s a phone call out of the blue and the audience at this point don’t know who it’s from – but what she hears shocks her and sends her flying off the handle.
Do people realise she’s had this shocking news?
Mackenzie doesn’t know that there is anything wrong and they have a bit of a domestic. He says something to wind her up and she just says she’s going out. She’s quite volatile in her reaction and quite reckless in the next thing that she does…
Yes, she turns to the Charity of old and starts misbehaving …
She sees that Caleb (Mike Kelly) has dropped his car keys and she just feels reckless. She immediately becomes this teenage girl again. Cain spots her, and who better to be rebellious with than her sidekick back from her teenage years?
Is he keen on joining the fun?
No, Cain disagrees and tell sher she’s doing the wrong thing. He tries to get out of the car, but she whizzes off at a pace that it's impossible for him to get out.
Did you get to do your own driving?
Yes, I got to do my own stunt. There was a muffin and a cup of coffee on the roof of the car, and I had to pull away really fast so the muffin jolted off the car - I loved it!
She’s letting off steam with this recklessness, but what’s going on emotionally?
Charity is vulnerable at the news she’s been given. There’s a lot of anger to begin with that boils up to the surface. When she starts talking about what’s happened with Cain it comes out quite vitriolic, angry and bitter.
Does Cain help her?
She has a heart-to-heart with him. Obviously, she is dealing with this thing, while Cain has his issues with Caleb. She makes him question why he doesn’t trust Caleb. They both reflect on their own behaviour and their destructive ways.
