While they were there, Hovanec met a South African man called Anthony Theodorou in a local restaurant and they started an affair. Their relationship continued long-distance when she and Timothy returned to the US in 2020 and Hovanec filed for divorce.
Hovanec was living with her mum Anita Green in Wapakoneta, Ohio, while Timothy was hours away in Virginia, but the devoted dad was determined to see his three children. Unfortunately, Hovanec was making it difficult.
A judge agreed that Timothy was allowed visitation rights, but in December 2021, Hovanec stopped her estranged husband from seeing their children. Timothy filed several motions against Hovanec and travelled from Virginia to Ohio for court proceedings.
Finally, on 22 April 2022, a judge ruled that Timothy must see the children for the next two days, and from 28 May he would become the residential parent and legal custodian for two months over the summer. That weekend, the children stayed with their dad at the hotel where he was staying.
Timothy returned the children to Hovanec’s home on 24 April, but he was reported missing when he failed to check out of the hotel and the staff found all his belongings.

WRESTLED TO THE GROUND
When the police found Timothy’s car abandoned in Dayton, Ohio, they examined the dashcam footage and were shocked at what they saw. It had recorded exactly what had happened to Timothy.
Timothy was seen returning the children to his estranged wife at 7pm on 24 April. Footage showed Hovanec and her mum, Anita Green, waiting outside next to the garage. Hovanec approaches the vehicle and tells the children, “I have a surprise for you inside.” They jump out and Green follows them into the house.
Timothy removes the car seats and suddenly starts shouting, “What the heck are you doing? Did you just assault me?” Then, “Get away from me… get off me.”
The dashcam filmed Timothy and Hovanec as she pulled his shirt and tugged him down the driveway. He desperately tried to reach for his mobile, but she wrestled him and it’s knocked from his hand. With Timothy on the ground, she held him around the neck until he went limp.
Hovanec picked up his mobile, removed his smart watch and turned off the car engine. The dashcam stopped filming.
Hovanec was brought in for questioning. The police knew she was involved, but how had she overpowered Timothy? Why was he lifeless so quickly and where was he now?
At first, Hovanec said Timothy had dropped the kids off and driven away, but then she was confronted with the video footage. Hovanec had no choice but to confess that she had killed Timothy. She admitted that while he was unloading the car, she had injected him in the shoulder with a poison she believed would kill him within minutes.

DEADLY SUBSTANCE
Hovanec was still seeing Theodorou, who’d found the deadly substance and shipped it to her from South Africa. The vial was hidden in a package that contained jewellery. He had then flown to Ohio for the attack. Theodorou had dug a shallow grave in the woods the day before.
After Hovanec had killed Timothy, she dumped his car and wrapped his head and body in plastic bags to avoid “fluids secreting”. Her mum was aware of the plan and drove Timothy’s body, Hovanec and Theodorou to the grave site.
When investigators found Timothy’s body on 28 April, they discovered he had been injected with M99, or etorphine, a controlled substance that’s 1,000 ...
