¿Cuándo se dejó de creer en las brujas?

Con la llegada de la Ilustración, a mediados del siglo XVIII, la brujería ya era una preocupación apenas residual en Europa. En España, cuya Inquisición se mantuvo hasta 1834, ya no se ajusticiaba a ninguna bruja desde 1611, y en Holan-da desde un año antes. En Inglaterra, la última sentencia a muerte por brujería llegó en 1684 con el ahorcamiento de una mujer, no muy lejos en el tiempo del gran proceso estadounidense de Salem (1692). Y claro, si ya no había sentencias por brujería, era lógico que este delito también desapareciera. En Inglaterra eso sucedió en 1736, a la par que en Escocia.
