XILITLA UN DESTINO SURREALISTA

Ningún Pueblo Mágico merece más tal denominación como esta localidad, donde se conjuntan la exuberante vegetación de la Huasteca Potosina con el fantástico legado de dos exponentes británicos del surrealismo: Edward James y Leonora Carrington.

Nacido en el seno de una familia aristocrática, estrechamente vinculada con la monarquía de Gran Bretaña, Edward James (1907-1984) heredó una cuantiosa fortuna que utilizó en el mecenazgo de artistas del surrealismo, como su compatriota y amiga Leonora Carrington (1917-2011), y para crear una magna obra de esa corriente: el Jardín Escultórico Las Pozas, en Xilitla, San Luis Potosí, al noreste de México. La historia de ese espacio natural y artístico se remonta a la década de 1930, cuando James escribió su única novela, El jardinero que vio a Dios (publicada hasta 1982), en donde el protagonista se propone ayudarle al Creador a cuidar el Jardín del Edén.
