EL ORIGEN DEL QUINTO SOL

Todos los pueblos tienen sus mitos sobre la creación, esto distingue a las culturas y les aporta identidad. Aquí, dos cosmogonías esenciales de los antiguos mexicanos.

El Quinto Sol, en la mitología mesoamericana, se refiere a aquel bajo el que viven actualmente los hombres. Por tanto, esto implicaba que antes de su creación hubo previamente cuatro soles, los cuales representaron diferentes etapas o eras fallidas. Estas se caracterizaron por un Sol especial y una humanidad particular, que terminaron con un tipo de catástrofe diferente. En resumen, el primer Sol, Nahui Océlotl (4 Jaguar), estuvo habitado por gigantes y fue devorado por un jaguar. El segundo, Nahui Ehécatl (4 Viento), fue destruido por el viento y los hombres mutaron a simios. El tercero, llamado Nahui Quiyáhuitl (4 Lluvia), terminó abrasado por el fuego y los hombres convertidos en guajolotes.
