Internet y los dispositivos electrónicos son grandes herramientas para la Humanidad y las organizaciones, pero al mismo tiempo también pueden ser su ruina o, incluso, las que caven su tumba.

Si bien la ciberseguridad es un término generado en el siglo pasado, es apenas en este milenio que comenzó a tomar relevancia, específicamente con el uso generalizado de internet y las computadoras ya no sólo en empresas y gobierno, sino en los hogares y, por ende, en cualquier parte del mundo. Los mayores ciberataques de la historia y los fraudes por la red o aplicaciones se realizaron —y se realizan—desde la computadora de una persona en su hogar o desde dispositivos de un grupo de ciberdelincuentes en una oficina o un espacio público. Desde el año 2000 a la fecha la cantidad de ciberataques ha crecido exponencialmente.
