For instance, you can tilt the scene into a 3-D perspective, with their speed plotted as a freestanding “curtain” around the course—its changing height representing mph (à la Racepak’s graphics). But to best understand our 12 cars’ relative performance, we’re again turning to our slot-car portrayal, where the graphic trick is to imagine each car tracing its own parallel lane, making it easy to understand their relative positions at a sequence of snapshots in time.
