The second coming is upon us, so, once again, we can talk performance. The age of automobile technology has reached a level that permits driveability, emission control and fuel mileage to be wrapped up in a single word. However, this revelation is not without cost, for turbocharging is expensive. Turbocars are not new to us war babies; this is not their first time out of the box, although now their timing is more in harmony with consumers’ needs. Oldsmobile was not even moderately successful when it introduced its 215cid Turbo-Rocket Cutlass in 1962. Then small for its output, the little engine produced one horsepower per cubic inch of displacement.
