STOLEN CAR RETRIEVAL SYSTEMS It’s certainly no secret that auto theft is a major problem in the U.S. The magnitude of the problem is difficult to comprehend. If auto theft were a legitimate business in the United States, it would rank 50th among the Fortune 500 companies. Its dollar-loss value per year in the U.S. is between six and seven billion dollars. Police statistics show that auto thefts result in more injuries and fatalities to police officers than any other enforcement activity. A large crosssection of car alarms is currently available, but for whatever reasons, hasn’t reduced the problem significantly. In California, total thefts have increased approximately 30,000 cars per year since 1985, and nationwide, auto theft is the second fastest-growing crime.
