GETTING SMART ON THE ELECTRIC HIGHWAY I don’t drive much anymore. Not that I miss it, mind you. There are so many other snazzy things to do in my car instead that, really, I don’t have the time. You probably think I mean I no longer spend much time in my car. You crazy? In these bumper-to-but-tocks, Hamptons-to-Home Office times, I spend more hours in my car than in my bed! But drive? What for? I leave that to the car. It works the gas, the brakes, the steering, the CD, all that greaseball stuff. My car, see, is “smart.” It has “smart” self-navigation, “smart” route selection, “smart” traffic bulletin-gathering (all grim), “smart” suspension—we used to call it “active,” but that was before we got smart.
