In 1989, Chevrolet started up the Geo expansion team, offering a low-priced assortment of sport coupes, sedans, and sport/utilities manufactured in cooperation with Toyota, Isuzu, and Suzuki. The Tracker, Prizm, and Storm are in the starting lineup, but the center of this successful team has been the Metro. The Metro line, which boasts the highest fuel economy rating in the country (for the XFi model), now features the Geo Metro LSi Convertible, a subcompact front-drive two-door runabout that delivers fun and flash for minimum cash. As a pint-size convertible, the logical question is: Was it meant to compete with the Miata? Emphatically, no.
