Alfa Romeos have always been thick with flavor. A lusty, Italian flavor made up of a blatting exhaust, a free-revving powerplant, cut-and-slash road manners, and the raw smell of tanned leather. These cars were more crisp and hard-edged than Porsches and embodied the Italian topless wind-in-the-hair feeling better than anything short of a full-out Ferrari. So, we were a little apprehensive when asked to sample the first frontdrive Alfa Romeo to hit the U.S. shores. Especially touting five-passenger luxury and a whisper-quiet ride. Has Alfa forsaken its roots in a quest for the Yuppie market? Happily, no.
