ASTON MARTIN REVIVES DB4 Reassured by its Ford ownership, and mindful that it was once a serious rival to Ferrari, the English Aston Martin marque is pressing ahead with plans to again become a prominent supercar maker. With the new Virage coupe now in production, and with sales of the 190-mph Vantage derivative less than a year away, Aston now can focus on the next model in its renaissance—a relatively high-volume car that will be a “spiritual successor” to the pretty little DB4. Code-named DP1999, the new car will require Aston Martin to open a new factory and double the size of its workforce by 1995.
