Becoming a mum is an emotional rollercoaster. There’s joy, pride, fear, frustration... not to mention take-your-breath-away love. And, for many of us, there can be anxiety, too. ‘When you’re anxious, it can feel like your head is full to bursting point,’ says psychotherapist Anna Mathur. ‘And the feelings that come with it are often negative – you might feel sad, or scared. It’s a sense of feeling out of control.’
And while all that’s going on for you mentally, physically your nervous system kicks off a fight-or-flight response. ‘Back in caveman times, what was feared was very real, such as the threat of a bear attack. The caveman had to run and fast, so he had a very physical response,’ says Anna. ‘Nowadays, we still have that innate physical response…
