Help your little one understand the concept of time by setting a timer for independent play. Set the timer, put it somewhere visible, and say ‘Mummy is busy while the timer is on.’ As a rule of thumb, a two-year-old will be able to do 10 minutes of independent play; a three-year-old 20 minutes.
Play a quick five-minute game with your tot first, giving your full, undivided attention. This will help keep the mum-guilt at bay, plus your little one is much more likely to continue playing a game if you’ve shown him how to do it first!
