DRIED HYDRANGEAS

Add a rustic focal point to any room with a swathe of naturally dried hydrangeas from the garden

MATERIALS ■ Fresh hydrangeas ■ Secateurs ■ Straight-sided vases ■ Twine ■ Raffia ■ Florist wire 1 For best results, you will need to gather hydrangea blooms towards the end of their flowering season (late summer). Make sure you cut them on long stems (35-45cm). 2 Once indoors, using the secateurs, cut the stems at an angle and snip off any leaves. 3 Half fill the vases with fresh water and place a few stems in each. Don’t crowd them as they won’t dry evenly. 4 Let the water evaporate naturally (two to three weeks) and the hydrangeas should feel dry and papery to touch and ready to use. 5 To make a simple garland, fix a length of twine securely across a wall or chimney breast.
