LENGTHENING CURTAINS

Bid sweet dreams to daylight poking beneath ill-fitting curtains and disturbing your sleep. Lucy Tiffney shows you how to add floor-length drama to window displays that fall short

MATERIALS ■ Fabric to extend your existing curtains ■ Iron ■ Tape measure ■ Pins ■ Seam ripper ■ Scissors ■ Sewing machine and thread ■ Bonding tape or needle and thread 1 Unpick or cut the existing curtain hem all along the bottom edge. Unpick the hems at the sides of the curtain panel about 2-3cm up. Press with an iron. 2 Measure how much longer you need your curtain panel to be. Add 12cm to this measurement. Measure the width of the existing curtain panel including the seam allowance on both sides. 3 Cut a border fabric piece of fabric to add to lengthen the curtain using your measurements.
