Simple lines painted freehand will add a country-check effect to any piece of furniture

+ If your bedside table has any handles or hardware, remove these before cleaning and painting MATERIALS ■ Bedside cabinet ■ Washing-up liquid, sponge and a bowl of hot water ■ Sandpaper or an electric sander ■ Roller or paintbrush ■ Small artist’s brush ■ Masking tape (optional) ■ Wood primer ■ Furniture paint in two colours 1 To prep your furniture for upcycling, give it a good clean with washing-up liquid and warm water first.
