NEW COSTELLO MUSICAL A FACE IN THE CROWD ARRIVES

NEARLY 70 YEARS after it was released, the Budd Schulberg-scripted, Elia Kazan-directed film A Face In The Crowd – which charts the rise and fall of TV star turned political demagogue Larry ‘Lonesome’ Rhodes – has lost none of its power or relevance. In September, a stage adaptation will debut at London’s Young Vic featuring original songs written by Elvis Costello. “It’s a masterpiece,” says Costello of the 1957 feature, “but that is cinema, not musical theatre. And although there are musical performances in the movie, we are dealing with a very different animal here.
