GIGANTIC (Pixies, Surfer Rosa, 1988) “I was watching a movie about an interracial love,” Deal remembers, “and I must have mentioned it.” Some fans used the info to interpret the song’s hook about a “big, big love” as a reference to, um, penis size. “Way to take something that’s sweet and lovely and turn it,” she says. “That’s fucking dark.” Still, it remained one of her mother’s favourites. OPENED (The Breeders, Pod, 1990) Before The Breeders rendezvoused with Steve Albini in Scotland, they stayed at Josephine Wiggs’ sprawling family home in Biggleswade to write.
