DID YOU KNOW Anybody can make sourdough starter. It is a fermentation of water, flour, friendly bacteria, and wild naturally occurring yeast. Sourdough gets its name from the tangy flavor. Ancient Egyptians are credited with baking the first sourdough bread. In fact, the earliest yeast breads all started out as sourdough, including challah. Every sourdough has its own flavor based on age, region, and kitchen environment. Boudin Bakery in San Francisco is still making sourdough bread using a "mother dough" gleaned from a Gold Rush miner in 1848. It is the oldest "living" dough in the United States! You can bake many yummy things with sourdough such as sandwich bread, focaccia, pita, babka, cinnamon rolls, crackers, and even cookies.…
