As Christmas socialising swings into action, glasses will be raised in many places around the world. This is especially true for British women (we are the eighth heaviest drinkers globally), living in a country where it’s traditional to toast the festivities with a glass of fizz. But for me, there will be no festive ‘spirit’ – I am among the 22% of UK women who don’t drink alcohol. This will be my sixth teetotal Christmas and, with 43% of British women reported as saying they want to drink less, it looks like there are many others who are also considering an alcohol-free holiday season.
