There are no two ways about it: I love Christmas. I always have. I love the candlelight and carols, the scent of pine needles and fir, the mince pies and mulled wine. I love the excitement of getting the boxes of decorations down from the loft, unwrapping each bauble from its newspaper nest and hanging it on the tree. And I love having the opportunity to spend precious time with family and friends. In recent years, however, it had all started to feel a little flat.
