The weekend was dominated not by Ducati, but by Maverick Viñales and Aprilia. Indeed, ‘Top Gun’ set a new all-time lap record on his way to pole position and proceeded to win both the Sprint and Grand Prix. In doing so, Viñales became the first rider to win a MotoGP race with three different manufacturers – Suzuki, Yamaha and Aprilia. Naturally, Marc Marquez was the favourite heading into the weekend but, after finishing second on Saturday, the six-time premier class champion crashed out of the GP moments after taking the lead on lap 11.
