I COME FROM a family of tennis players: my dad used to compete at the national level in Canada; my oldest brother, Lawson, played provincially; and my middle brother, Ashton, did international tournaments in Italy, Germany and the U.S. in his early teens. I don’t remember my first time playing, but I was probably four or five. By the time I was seven, I was entering Ontario U9 tournaments. One year, Ashton came in first place, and I came in third. We even have a picture of us standing together with our little prizes. I was just so happy to be able to be there next to him.
