Ever since the Weave-It loom (the first of the three-pin-style pin looms) became popular back in the 1930s, fancy “stitch” (pick-up) patterns have also been available for the small loom. Many patterns are still available in old books, some of which have been scanned, republished, or posted online. Nearly a century later, weavers are developing new pick-up patterns for these looms-but pattern designers have largely ignored weavers who prefer using diagonally woven, continuous-weave looms.
Recently, an upsurge in interest in pick-up patterns for diagonally woven looms inspired me to see what I could design. I now have stacks of more-or-less successful squares. I say “more or less” because some worked beautifully, others worked only after multiple tries and lots of math, and some don't meet my standards … yet.
