WEAVING TO CLEAR YOUR MIND

As weavers, it's easy for us to end up a bit too focused on details. We spend time battling with selvedges, carefully checking the sett every inch, and generally trying to do everything as perfectly as possible. While there's nothing wrong with focusing on these details, it can also be nice to weave something simple and lose yourself in the moment. For times when you need to clear your mind and find some peace, Ellie Fisher's book Weaving as Art Therapy for Beginners has got you covered.

First and foremost, it should be noted that the exercises and projects in Fisher's book aren't meant to replace actual therapy with a licensed professional—they are therapeutic in that they're meant to promote relaxation and reduce stress. Fisher takes the time to explain basics that many more experienced weavers might take for granted, including winding a shuttle, making a yarn butterfly, tying useful knots, changing your weft at the selvedge and mid-pick, basic weaving techniques, and finishing your weaving. Really and truly, you could go into this book not knowing weaving from knitting and come out with enough knowledge to get started weaving right away.
