Pan oeddwn i’n blentyn, un o ddanteithion arbennig y Nadolig dw i’n cofio eu bwyta oedd dêts. Dw i’n eu gweld nhw r[an wedi’u pacio’n dynn mewn bocs hir â fforc fach blastig. Mi fasai fy mysedd yn mynd yn ludiog i gyd wrth drio eu cael nhw allan o’r bocs, ac roedd eu blas nhw’n wahanol iawn i unrhyw beth arall. Wrth i mi dyfu ychydig yn h]n, mi wnes i ddod i ddeall mai tyfu ar goed palmwydd mae dêts. Mae Phoenix dactylifera, y ‘date palm’ yn Saesneg, wedi’i thyfu ers canrifoedd er mwyn casglu’r ffrwythau melys. Does neb yn hollol si[r pryd roedd y dêts wedi dechrau cael eu tyfu ar gyfer hyn. Ond dan ni’n credu bod hyn wedi digwydd yn yr ardal o amgylch Ceufor Persia…
