L’épisode reste une cicatrice dans la mémoire de Donald Trump. En 2021, le milliardaire républicain espère sincèrement obtenir une reconnaissance internationale et le prix Nobel de la paix. Celui qui est alors ancien président des Etats-Unis se trouve sur la liste des candidats pour son rôle central dans la signature des accords d’Abraham, une série de traités de paix conclus entre Israël, les Emirats arabes unis, Bahreïn, le Maroc et le Soudan. Après tout, son rival historique Barack Obama a bien reçu le Nobel en 2009, sans autre exploit que son élection à la Maison-Blanche. Mais, en 2021, le prix ira aux journalistes Dmitri Mouratov et Maria Ressa.
