Ryusuke Hamaguchi – ce nouveau grand talent du cinéma japonais, découvert en 2021 avec le tchekhovien Drive My Car – aime chanter les louanges du cinéma français, et en particulier des films d’Éric Rohmer. Il est vrai que, tel son illustre aîné, ce quadragénaire affable (que Bong Joon-ho, le réalisateur de Parasite, tient pour le meilleur cinéaste au monde) construit ses films comme des fables dont la morale est plus ambiguë qu’il n’y paraît. Son nouvel opus, Le mal n’existe pas, raconte comment deux agents artistiques tentent d’expliquer aux habitants d’un village idyllique qu’un site de glamping (contraction de « glamour » et « camping ») va être construit près de chez eux.
