«Nous pouvons rivaliser avec Orphée et chanter face à l’horreur, chanter sans arrêt jusqu’à ce que la marée s’inverse et que des jours meilleurs adviennent. » En prononçant ces mots devant le parterre d’écrivains conviés par le PEN America, aux Nations unies, le 13 mai 2022, il y a deux choses au moins que Salman Rushdie ignorait. D’abord, que quelques mois plus tard, le 12 août, un attentat au couteau manquerait de lui coûter la vie, trente-trois ans après la fatwa lancée contre lui. Ensuite, que contrairement au mythe, ce n’est pasOrphée qui irait chercher Eurydice dans les Enfers mais Eurydice qui irait chercher Orphée et qu’elle s’appelle, dans son cas, Rachel Eliza Griffiths, sa nouvelle épouse, poétesse, romancière et désormais héroïne du Couteau, sous-titré Réflexions suite à une tentative…
