Siaya Eco-Park: A Vision for a Green, Inclusive Hub in Siaya’s Heart University of Pennsylvania In Siaya, Kenya, a new stadium will offer the chance to create a downtown hub and model for sustainable development. In this student proposal, a 40-acre eco-park centered around the stadium addresses problems of severe flooding, poor water quality, unreliable power, and environmental degradation. The eco-park’s mixed-use development replaces asbestos-contaminated affordable housing that had already been demolished and adds community amenities such as recreational facilities and public bathrooms. The walkable development emphasizes pedestrian connectivity to external services and encourages environmental stewardship with a conservation area, medicinal garden, and community farm.
