Recently selected for the MAK Center’s inaugural Researcher-in-Residence program, which is open to built environment professionals of any discipline, Maya Livio raises questions about reimagining land use in her proposal, “Hospes: Housing Justice and Multispecies Cohabitation at the Wildland–Urban Interface.”The proposal investigates the intersection of human and more-than-human livability in Los Angeles. “The work is invested in mapping activist and creative interventions around land use and surfacing the affinities between issue spaces such as housing justice and conservation,” Livio says. Rooted in environmental media as it intersects with social and environmental justice, Livio’s work explores how digital systems like AI, networked cameras, and sensors interact with living ecosystems.
