Detroit’s Roosevelt Park moves out of the shadows and starts a new chapter.

Until recently, Detroit’s Roosevelt Park had all the character of an interstate shoulder. Its broad expanses of lawn, devoid of definition or seating, were bisected every few hundred feet by yawning roadways, including a six-lane central boulevard designed to lead people to and from Michigan Central Station, the city’s iconic Beaux-Arts train station. “The park really never achieved its full potential as a community space,” says Chris Riggert, a principal at OHM Advisors, a multidisciplinary firm with an office in Detroit.Riggert recently helped lead a $6 million renovation of Roosevelt Park to coincide with the reopening of Michigan Central Station, which was purchased by Ford in 2018.
