I began working with Elizabeth Felicella more than 20 years ago. MVVA had asked her to shoot two side-by-side courtyards, each wrapped entirely in glass. She used complex reflections to play the perfect glass cubes against the gardens’ deeply textured, naturalistic planting. We loved the work. After that, we collaborated nonstop. In December 2024, her partner told me that she had died of cancer. She was 58. He wrote, “A light has gone out in the world.” I couldn’t agree more. The last time we worked together was in October 2023. For MVVA’s Brooklyn Bridge Park book, we needed a photograph to go alongside an image of a New Yorker cover that inspired the park’s design.
