SPIRIT IN THE LAND Pérez Art Museum Miami Through September 8 Culture and nature converge in Spirit in the Land, a group exhibition of 30 artists, each of whom interrogates the relationship between identity and ecology through a range of mediums. Works by artists such as Firelei Báez, Carrie Mae Weems, and Allison Janae Hamilton are particularly concerned with the relationship between biodiversity and cultural diversity. As the climate crisis looms, the works in this exhibition are a persistent reminder of the connection between natural environments, cultural memory, and healing. In this mixed media work by Renée Stout, the Native American artist James Luna is surrounded by herbs regarded for their healing properties, including ginger and lotus root.
