LAM/ COMMENT Readers weigh in on stories from our April and May issues. Iwas called to write because of your note, “…and landscape architects become more sure of themselves” (Land Matters, LAM, April). Ouch. You are not wrong. Twenty years ago, and to this day, in the classroom where I am a lecturer at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, I still sometimes hear the same phrase: “I’m in landscape architecture because I’m not good at math and couldn’t get into architecture.” We need to stop leading with our insecurities and start acknowledging and recognizing our diverse and unique strengths. Society may have taught us to believe that it values doctors, lawyers, architects, and engineers, but we don’t have to buy into it, and we don’t have to wait for other people…
