FOR THE PAST TWO DECADES, the Cultural Landscape Foundation (TCLF) has published an annual thematic report highlighting landscapes that are under significant threat. This year’s Landslide is a break from tradition, focusing less on landscapes or typologies and instead centering on the significant protests that were staged at or near them. Demonstration Grounds is a selection of sites of protest that are rapidly fading from public memory. While many of the landscapes are familiar—Seattle’s Pike Place Market surely will be—the events that took place on them will likely be less so, even as the actions and protests were fundamental in shaping American history.
