PROJECT Appalachia Hemp Farm LOCATION West Virginia FIRM Kirk Bereuter Landscape Architecture, LLC During the pandemic, I invented a project type—destination hemp farm master planning. Finding these projects involves a lot of proactive legwork, from finding the farms to developing relationships with the farmers. I’ve worked on three of these types of projects now, and I’m proud to call all the farmers involved friends, as well as collaborators. The latest project, shown here, is set in the untamed wilderness of West Virginia. The site features innovative bio-intensive agricultural practices on a humble log cabin homestead, and our work has been dedicated to developing a destination site program that supports a sustainable business model.
