Die Bybelvers Eksodus 20:5 sê: “Jy mag jou voor hulle nie neerbuig en hulle nie dien nie; want Ek, die Here jou God, is ’n jaloerse God . . .” (1953-vertaling). Dan gaan die Bybel voort om in Jer. 51:52 te verklaar: “. . . dat Ek besoeking sal doen oor sy gesnede beelde . . .” Dus, geen afgode voor die Here nie. Ons dink dadelik aan beelde van klip of hout, maar ek dink wat die Here regtig hier bedoel, is dat Hy niks of niemand anders bokant Hom wil hê nie, want Hy is ’n jaloerse God.
